I’ve mentioned goals and goal setting in my last two posts and I feel that I’d be remissed if I didn’t take some time to visit the concept of SMART goals. I’ve worked with a variety of people from all walks of life and I’ve find that roughly 50% are familiar with the SMART goals concept. However, 75% of the individuals who are familiar with it are uncertain what the SMART acronym stands for. I also find it interesting (and a little amusing) how many variations of the SMART acronym exist! I’ve heard some pretty common variations; I’ve also heard some that were so outlandish they were certainly made up on the spot or at the Hogwarts.

Do you want to be happy and highly motivated? Do you want your team to be happy and highly motivated? I know I do! But where do we start? Well…we start with the brain.
I’m fascinated by psychology and the brain. The brain holds so many secrets and solutions. Brain research is constantly revealing new insights and discoveries. Discoveries that redefine our understanding of human nature. The brain is truly remarkable:
- It takes 82,944 computer processors 40 minutes to match 1 second of biological brain processing time.
- Miles of blood vessels, capillaries and other transport systems in the brain: 100,000 miles.
- Number of connections in the adult brain: 1 quadrillion.
- Number of neurons in the brain: 100 Billion.

If you’ve ever set up a website, blog, social media page, etc., you know it takes time AND lot’s of answers. Answers to questions you’ve never thought to ask yourself before. I was confronted with this question today: “what’s your tagline?” Tagline? I even looked it up, I wanted to ensure I filled this in properly. Tagline defined: a memorable phrase or sentence that is closely associated with a particular person, product, movie, etc.
That’s a bit of a problem. I don’t have a tagline. Furthermore, I’m creating a new brand. I barely have a logo let alone a tagline! So, I got out my notebook (paper and pencil; somethings are best completed in their traditional analog format) and starting writing down poignant words and phrases. Most were trite, cliche or poorly suited for the Endeavor brand. Ultimately I settled on one: Rise Above. As you will likely see this tagline at some point, I thought I’d share some insight about what it means and how it applies to you.
I’m starting a new project and I’m excited to share the journey with you! Today, I started putting some of the pieces together for what I hope will become an appealing and insightful suite of resources for development minded professionals and entrepreneurs. It will take time (as all good things do) to achieve my vision for the Endeavor brand. In the months ahead, I hope to provide the Endeavor community with insightful posts, videos and pod-casts. This suite of content will span a wide range of topics under the umbrella of professional development. Content that will appeal to a variety of individuals; from first time managers to vice presidents and every position in between. The content will also benefit entrepreneurs who may not have the time or budget for seminars/consultants but need to cultivate their management skill set. Endeavor will be a source of knowledge for the “everyman.” I welcome you to join me on this journey! Whatever you endeavor to accomplish, Endeavor will help you achieve it.
